Ted R.Adult Services Librarian David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling GiantsMalcom Gladwell (2013)I love Malcolm Gladwell's books. They always get you thinking about things in new ways. David and Goliath is no exception. The book will make you make you realize that things often perceived as advantages and disadvantages are not always as clear cut as they seem. Gladwell goes through several examples, stating the case in detail, and backing it up with facts. A couple examples: is it a clear advantage in life to go to a Harvard or Yale instead of a lesser known school? Is a smaller class size always the best learning experience? Not necessarily... He also spends time talking through cases of people (or groups of people) that seem to have a disadvantage in life and how they turned it around: certain individuals with dyslexia, ML King Jr. and the civil rights movement, Catholics in Northern Ireland, and others. He begins with the David and Goliath story, which you will never think about in the same way again.
