VEX Robotics, Inc.: VEX Robotics Australian National Championship finds new home in South Australia

VEX Robotics, global provider of educational and competitive robotics products, in conjunction with the Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation has announced South Australia is set to become the home of the biennial VEX Robotics Australian National Championship. South Australia's bid to host the event, prepared by the Adelaide Convention Bureau, included support from the Premier of South Australia leading academics and the City of Adelaide Lord Mayor. Premier of South Australia, Hon. Steven Marshall MP said he was "delighted" that the Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation had selected Adelaide as their preferred host destination for the VEX National Robotics Championships in 2021, 2023 and 2025. "Hosting this prestigious business event over a four-year period presents an innovative platform to inspire our next generation of STEM professionals and enhance STEM learning for South Australia's young people. It will also continue to cement Adelaide's reputation as 'the State of Science'." Damien Kitto, CEO Adelaide Convention Bureau said: "The ACB is delighted our bid strategy means Adelaide will be the home of The VEX Robotics Australian National Championship. SA is fast becoming the national home of STEM and leading edge Space and AI research, and the ACB is keen to encourage more such events to Adelaide so young adults can recognise us as such a destination. "We couldn't be more thrilled about this new partnership with South Australia and the Adelaide Convention Bureau, it will allow us to do great things in the robotics space. With over 60 SA schools registered to compete in our local VEX Robotics competitions this year, South Australia's enthusiasm and commitment to embedding robotics education are unmistakable," added Heath May, VEX Robotics managing director." The goal of this event aligns with the South Australian government's EXCITE and FIXE Startup and Entrepreneurship strategies and complements the Department of Education's A$250m 'STEM Works' investment plan rolled out to 139 schools (75,000 students). "The VEX National Australian Robotics Championships provides an opportunity to inspire our next generation of STEM professionals through their participation in healthy competition with their international peers," said Professor Caroline McMillen, chief scientist of South Australia. "The participants in these events will benefit from, and contribute to, South Australia's research in such sectors as agriculture, defence and space, health, energy and mining."
