Great speakers and new faces gathered together last week for Version-X's second in-house networking and portfolio review event. Last week we held our second in-house event here at Version-X: our Fall Portfolio Review Night. Collaborating again with our friends at Behance, we hosted designers, photographers, publishers, students and even an architect for a great night of creative thinking, conversation and networking. The night kicked off with an open format social gathering where people from all over the Los Angeles creative community could meet each other, socialize and show off their work to their peers. After some meeting and greeting, our guest speakers took the stage. Terry Bailey, new media designer and interactive multimedia author, talked about the importance of UX and interface design in every aspect of our world and how we can draw inspiration from unexpected places for an intuitive user experience. Gary LaVasser, visual marketing and environmental designer, spoke about the importance of packaging design in order to make a cohesive brand. Last but not least, Melinda Geniza, a business development expert and professional creative recruiter, spoke to our audience about a recruiter's perspective of designers and how to improve your resume and portfolio for the best possible chance of landing that dream job. After our speakers shared their expertise with us, our senior design staff headed up one-on-one portfolio reviews with our guests. Creative Director Chris Fasan, Senior Designer Steve Silvas and Designer Jason Campbell gave feedback and an agency perspective to many of the visiting creatives who shared their work with us. This event was a great success and the team here at Version-X had a wonderful time getting to know some of the other creative professionals and students in our community. Make sure to check out all of the photos from this and past events on our Facebook (be sure to tag yourself and share!) and sign-up for our mailing list to be the first to know about our next creative event, coming up later this year.
