A Note from Linda Dear Friends, Last Sunday we began a study of the inner, metaphysical meanings of the Ten Commandments. As I reflected on them further this week, it occurred to me that Jesus did just what we are doing-studying this ancient, foundational wisdom about the nature of God and the nature of being human. It's fascinating to wonder about his process of discovery-were the inner meanings of the principles expressed in the commandments immediately apparent? Did he grasp their profound implications the first time he read them or did he ponder their meanings at length until deeper levels of understanding revealed themselves? Was he able to demonstrate them in his life right away or did he have to, as Unity co-founder Charles Fillmore says, undergo a mental training? Did he have to practice, practice, practice? One of our primary tasks as we undertake the spiritual journey is to "let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus." By studying these ancient teachings we are following in the steps of our Way-Shower. As we study them further this Sunday and explore how to apply them, we are joining a long line of spiritual seekers who have pondered them for millennia. We are in good company.I can't wait to continue the journey with you this Sunday! With gratitude and love, Linda Last Sunday Linda reviewed two stories from the Bible with common themes: one from Exodus and one from the Gospel of Matthew. Each story had a ruler who wanted to kill babies! She focused on the Exodus story and talked about the metaphysical interpretations the story represents. The ruler represents that old part of us who wants to keep the status quo and doesn't like change. Babies represent new ideas. We need to get in touch with our inner pharaoh and inner Moses! When the Hebrews went to Egypt, they turned away from their source and toward materialistic thinking. Egypt represents the body and materialistic sense-bound consciousness. Pharaoh is the self centered ego happy to stay where he is. Moses represents the evolutionary force of new ideas trying to get free, taking us to the spiritual realm. The number 40 (in time) means as long as it takes. The Hebrews wandered in the desert for 40 years before reaching the promised land. The two tablets that Moses brought down from the mountain represent the two parts of our being: the 1st five deal with causes-get your thoughts right! The 2nd five deal with the outer side of life: the law of action/reaction on the mental plane. The thoughts you are thinking are statues of your action. The "I AM" is being itself. Our thoughts create our lives; they affect the quantum field. It reproduces and takes direction faithfully. When you say "I am..." you are writing your own commandment. We must train our thoughts to produce the kind of lives we want! Can't wait to hear the rest of the story on the Commandments! Love and Blessings, Your UOG board News from the Board Thanks to all who make this church run so smoothly!
