A Note from Linda Dear Friends, The ancient metaphysical wisdom embedded in the 10 commandments teach us the requisite dispositions which allow us to, in the words of the poet and mystic Hafiz, "accept the Divine Invitation dressed for dancing rather than be carried on a stretcher to God's ward."This Sunday we will examine three of those principles that are at the heart and soul of the creative process. Synchronistically, one of those principles, honoring your father and mother, will be our focus as we observe Father's Day. What do honoring our father and mother, not killing, and not committing adultery have to do with our interior, creative process? How do these three seemingly arcane admonitions free us to fully express who we came here to be? How do these principles speak to who we are today, in these circumstances, at this juncture in our lives? Come this Sunday and find out!I can't wait to join you in the dance this Sunday! With gratitude and love, Linda Make a Joyful Noise Unto the Lord! We are planning a church sing-along featuring all of your favorite hymns and Sunday songs. The favorite hymns that have been submitted so far are listed below. If yours failed to get on the list, don't despair! They just got lost in the shuffle. The first commandment: I am the Lord your God. You shall have no other gods before Me states the truth of who God is -The "I Am"power which leads us to freedom-that and only that. There is no other power! The second commandment: You shall make no graven images. "Graven"means "carved."Eric Butterworth says the walls of our consciousness are carved with all the graven images formed out of our prejudices, fears, and complexes. What do we have carved into our consciousness? Is it a thought or idea that leads to freedom? The third commandment:Do not take the Lord's name in vain. To name something is to describe its character, to speak of its character. Our words have the power and authority of the originating consciousness-the words we speak reflect the character of our consciousness. We cannot speak one thing and manifest another. Words have power and they represent what we believe. The Fourth Commandment:Keep the Sabbath day holy. The Book of Genesis describes the creation of the world in seven days. These seven days represent stages or steps in any creative process. The last step, the seventh step in the creative process is the Sabbath. Sabbath refers to rest and that is a part of the creative process that cannot be skipped. Rest reflects the rhythmic flow of the universe: work and rest. Our body and mind need rest. The mind cannot stay too long in the world of the senses. They will pull it down. Everywhere you go you will see truth and error in combat-injustice, suffering, man's inhumanity to man, poverty. We can't ignore it, but we can get overloaded with it. Rest is part of how we are designed. We spend one-third of our lives in sleep. But what rests when we sleep? The heart continues beating, the lungs keep breathing, our nails and hair grow, the skin is more active during sleep. The mind is a traveler in dreams. What rests? We rest from the burdens of the world. We remove our attention from the external world to the eternal. Prayer and meditation do the same thing. We remove our attention from the external to the eternal. Prayer and meditation then are a Sabbath of sorts. We need to regularly withdraw our minds from the sense world and put it on Spirit, especially when we are in the midst of a struggle. So rest up this week and get set for more next Sunday!
