In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Thomas J. Bata, the Thomas J. Bata Legacy Award focuses to promote and support responsible entrepreneurship in emerging markets, and this year it aims to identify young people from age of 18 - 35 from East Africa with a sustainable business idea that addresses a community need or challenge. On November 18th 2014, the Global Business School Network (GBSN) and Riara University hosted the launch of Thomas J. Bata Legacy Award Promotion Campaign in honor of Global Entrepreneurship Week. GBSN's Director of Operation, Page Buchanan, attended this event and presented information about this award. This reception attracted over 100 guests in the business education and industry. An alumnus of Riara Business School, and founder and CEO of Genius Executives, Harry Karanja spoke during the cocktail reception. "You can make a profit while making an impact", he highlighted. Mr. Harry Karanja is an entrepreneur with more than 10 years of experience working with over 2,500 small businesses and undertaken projects in East Africa Breweries, Kenya Commercial Bank, Barclay Bank, and the Judiciary.
