Taps from Scratch Blog Pliny the Elder Challenge

We've been brewing in our backyard through Meetup since the first week of January 2012. By brewing every week for the entire year of 2012, entering beer competitions, creating commercial vs. homebrew challenges and giving away our homebrew at festivals, www.CFHB.org's Brew in the Park, College Park Farmers' Market and by request as long as you pay for the grains, hops and yeast, we're hoping to gain creditability within the homebrew community.Fred, beer enthusiast and reviewer, with a plethora of information about beer on his website and Youtube beer reviews, requested, with my 4.5 months of home brewing experience, we brew the best rated IIPA by both BeerAdvocate and RateBeer (unknown at the time) - Russian River's Pliny the Elder for his new Pub-Hub. It was a pretty simple malt bill and a super flavorful and bittering hop bill with the recipe located on Brew365. But at #1 with a perfect 100 score and less than 6 months of home brewing experience, we were obviously in over our head. Of course, we didn't know until the day of the Pliny the Elder Clone vs. Actual Challenge on May 14, 2012, how our clone came out as far as aroma, appearance or mouth feel much less how it compared to the actual Pliny. We also had no clue it was a perfect 100 in the beer universe until this day. We used real BJCP score sheets! Check out Fr5ed's independent beer review of the actual Pliny the Elder (#45) Now, 40 reviews later with a more mature pallet, check out Fr5ed's independent beer review of the Pliny the Elder Clone (#95). Make up your own mind and come and try some on one of six taps in the Man Cave! Tags: Russian River Pliny the Elder Taps from Scratch Challenge
