Support Services Blog Five Tips from SEO Pros

SEO techniques and skills are constantly changing. If you’re not evolving with the advancements, you risk being left behind – and your website becoming undiscoverable. Here are a couple of tips we’ve picked up to keep you moving in the right direction: You can’t spam your way to the top With the release of Google’s Panda & Penguin, gone are the days where you could increase your website’s visibility by posting back links in every possible location. Google’s algorithms are smarter than ever. To increase visibility, you need to create relationships with people or groups that will provide you with high-quality back links. Your association with credible sources will help to increase your rankings. Utilize your page title tags Google’s algorithms used for ranking are pretty smart, but they’re not mind readers.   Every page on your website has a title tag, and you should make use of it. If your tag is showing the title of the page as “Untitled” that gives crawlers no explanation as to what message you’re trying to convey. It’s not all about image Images are great for creating visual flair and aesthetic appeal but they aren’t easy for Google to index. If you’re housing text content in images, keep in mind that the crawlers which scan your website are will not be able to find this information. Don’t save large pieces of text as JPEGs – it could be hurting your rankings! Experiment with placement Are your events not getting the registration numbers you had hoped for? Consider revamping the layout of your page! You’d be surprised how a little rearrangement of buttons, text, and images can improve your sales. Share your content In a recent conversation with a marketing guru, I was told that one of the biggest failures of associations and companies when it comes to their marketing strategy, is their reluctance to share their own content on social networks. This develops from the fear of being identified as a spammer. Fear not dear friends; when your content is valuable it should be shared with the world – this includes your blog posts, news items, and events. When others begin to see your content is useful and share it with their networks, you benefit by moving up the ladder in a search engine’s ranks. So where do you go now? Follow these five steps to help improve your SEO: Create relationships with relevant & quality groups who are willing to link back to your website Use your title tags to appropriately name each page on your website Review your website to be sure relevant search terms are on your website as text – not images. Switch up the way you display your information – use analytics to determine the most effective promotion methods. Share & market your content to others through social media channels
