St.tammanynightout Blog 05/02/2012 - Spring Art Exhibits

The St. Tammany Art Association is a member- and community-supported arts nonprofit presenting continuous rotating art exhibits by regional and national artists, juried competitions, a gallery of works by member artists, and art workshops in a beautiful, historic space. Exhibits for spring 2012 are as follows: March 10-April 7 Engagement - An exhibition which explores the ways we engage with works of art through the viewpoints of four artists working with non-traditional materials: Gerald Cannon, Jessica Danby, Laura Gipson and Kathy Rodriguez. Each embraces or is influenced by technology in either a conceptual or interactive way. Jessica Danby uses a variety of fibers and objects which emphasize communication through the interaction of social media. Gerald Cannon incorporates the passage of time engaging with found images and digital media in capturing the ordinary and extraordinary. Kathy Rodriguez uses the traditional medium of paint to explore non-verbal communication through the eyes of urban creatures. Laura Gipson takes the dialogue inward with two and three dimensional works which explore shared human experience. The exhibition offers viewers an introduction to new artists, their work, and the concepts which motivated each in developing their process.April 14-May 5 José Maria Cundin, deatured exhibition for the 22nd annual Spring for Art block partyMay 12-June 29 Works by Students of St. Scholastica Academy & St. Pauls School The gallery is open 10am-4pm Tue-Fri, 11am-4pm Sat.For more information, visit www.sttammanyartassociation.org.Location: St. Tammany Art AssociationHours: 10am-4pm Tue.-Fri. and 11am-4pm Sat.
