The Istituto Marangoni is one of London’s less well-known educational cornerstones but amongst students of fashion and design it’s something of a ‘big deal’. A branch of the school first founded in Milan in 1935 by esteemed tailor Giulio Marangoni, almost every notable Italian designer of the last 50 years has been through the school at one time or another.
The London Institute was opened in 2003 in the famously fashionable Spitalfields area and has spent the last 17 years establishing itself as one of the most prestigious fashion schools in the world.
So, when the school was looking for a provider of engineered visual solutions to help them install brand new touchscreen and projector-based solutions for the post-COVID new academic year, which would help safely maintain social distancing without sacrificing educational clout, Spectra was the obvious first choice.
Given our pedigree as a display solutions provider with over 25 years of experience in the field, we were confident we could supply the school with the most suitable solutions for the best possible price.
Something completely different
The project was, to be completely honest, a bit of a departure for us but that didn’t mean we didn’t relish the opportunity for a challenge. There were 7 projectors and touchscreens required, in all, each of which needed to display full colour and could be utilised in tandem with a surface that would become a touchscreen that teachers and lecturers could use to draw images, present data and browse the internet.
We used top-tier, high definition interactive Epson projectors, as the school is very visual and aesthetically-focused, so clear and precise visuals were key. We were happy with the finished installation and hope that the school’s use of these technologies will set a precedent for the sector in the months to come.
Our display solutions will be used to:-
Present interactive presentations to keep students engaged - There is nothing quite like being able to interact with the learning material on offer and that’s what our solution provides. This can be invaluable for improving engagement, which might be understandably lacking given our current global situation.
Build games in lessons - Gamifying lessons is hardly a new concept but it’s so much easier to do when you have the technology available to help you to do so.
Express bold new design ideas - In the world of fashion and design, visuals are everything. Being able to use our projectors and touchscreens to draw sketches and ideas that can then be shared with the rest of the class could be a game-changer for some teachers.
Teach within a range of mediums - Everything from video content and interactive presentations to demonstrations of new ideas and concepts can be achieved through the solution. It’s also ideal for blended learning as entire lessons that are carried out on campus can be remotely streamed to students all over the world.
Make time more valuable - Remember the days where teachers would have to get into the classroom early to write-up notes and waste time erasing notes as the lesson went on? Those days are now a thing of the past!
