How do you serve? Do you serve others? Are you a server at a restaurant? Maybe a bartender? Housekeeper? Maybe you manage a company and it is your job to serve your employees and your bosses. Do you spend your work days or personal life creating pleasure or a product or something to help others? From artists to baristas to the self-employed most of us spend our time creating things to help others. The question is then, how does what you are doing serve you?If you are a therapist, helping clients to improve their moods, or providing space for them to process is how you serve. Does that serve you? You are changing the world, one life at a time and by helping those people maybe that helps you. If you are a barista, creating a carefully crafted coffee drink to brighten someone's day. If you are a server at a restaurant, making space for people to have not only the food they ordered, but have it timed well. You make sure they feel heard and helped and supported. All of these jobs take a lot of mental energy with the effort and emphasis on helping others, supporting others and making others happy or comfortable. When you are energized, well-fed, well-slept, well-socialized, revitalized from alone time, and leisure, those jobs are easy and it feels great to support others. On the flip side, if you have constantly been running on empty, pushing yourself, not eating or sleeping, or getting fun time, it feels like a chore. There is a lot that is important about service. Your jobs help your city run.Your attitude supports others. Your energy supports others. In order to have positive presence it is VITAL to take care of yourself. How do you self care?My top 3 self-care options are:delicious home-cooked meal on my best dishes. REST. I mean sleep, and lazy days and not feeling guilty about real down-time Acupuncture (or another treatment) it's my treatment of choice. But It helps me feel back to myself every time.
