Scripted Intelligence Blog Chat Bots Part 1

Chatbots or chat bots as some call them are a computer program that is designed in a way that it can communicate like people. There are many software produced by some physicists and scientists out there, but only a handful of them have human-like features. In a more unique way, bots are an amalgamation of Turing's vision. Eliza was the first ever chat bot. It emerged in 1966, and was the brainchild of the great scientist Joseph Weizenbaum. When Weizenbaum came up with this view, he witnessed lots of criticism from people. Some were with him, while others were against his view. But at the end of the day, his views prevailed because they were scientifically accurate, direct, factual and straight to the point. This is one of the qualities of modern science- the observations and theories must be truthful, analytical and factual beyond all reasonable doubts or analysis.Eliza is capable of recognizing several keywords. To cite one example, if you are typing some information about your father, Eliza will say 'tell me more about other members of your family'.Some physicists over the years have held the view that Eliza has the propensity of replacing psychotherapist. Some recent research concluded that this might be successful. To a large extent, it became a point of reference for others.Parry came shortly after Eliza, and it was written by the great Kenneth Colby. His theory was modeled on the paranoid mind. This made many people to start thinking whether Parry was a real human or not. This program helps in emitting linguistic responses- the values of the three great measures such as mistrust, anger and fear were used depending on how the conversation flows. Parry and Eliza were hard-wired programs; to the extent that they keep fooling users into thinking that they are chatting or talking with a particular human.Originally, chat bots or bots were designed to assist people in finding personalized design and information. Today, there are chat bots that can comfortably have a conversation with other bots. Though, a lot of work still need to be done so that the chat bots will be truly 'human emotional' Richard Wallace chat bot had been closest. This amazing man was one of the pioneers of artificial markup language. The major difference between a human and chat bot is that the former uses simple vocabularies but the human can use any word that pleases him.Alan Turing popularized artificial intelligence, in his famous literary masterpiece Computing Machinery and Intelligence. In this book, he launched what he called the 'Turing test'- this is a test that tried to explain the intelligence of chat bot and also compared their intelligence with the human's mind. There has been move to evaluate how chat bots interacts with humans. Sometimes, they have a broad conversation. Recently some students were asked to have a chat with bots in the U.S, and after the conversation, they were given the transcripts, and was asked to identify the difference between their natural voice, amazingly only a handful few were able to identify their own.Developers are currently making serious scientific postulations that will aid them in producing a better chat bot. The summary of all we are saying in the piece is that chat bots have come to stay; it is something we will never regret in any way. Those that do not know its impact will keep disproving it, but it is always a delight to those that are aware of its benefits towards the advancement of knowledge.
