Scott Architecture Blog How to Start a Custom Home Project

Most of my clients have no idea how to start a custom home project. I firmly believe the custom home process can be the most fulfilling project of your life, but I have heard a lot of people are scared to death to even start. I know it seems overwhelming. You're afraid you will spend too much money and time and still not understand how it all ended up this way. You're afraid construction will take forever and you don't want to spend the next several years arguing with a builder. You're afraid you'll get through the whole process and just not like the house. I do my best to calm all those fears. I have found, however, that a lot of people don't even get as far as talking to a residential architect. They're afraid to have a conversation about custom home building because they don't know who to talk to or even what to ask. You don't want to ask nosy neighbors or know-it-all colleagues for obvious reasons. You know where you want to end up but you're not sure where to start. I wrote this book as my way to help. "Dream, Inspire, Design: What a Residential Architect Wants to Tell You About the Custom Home Process" let's you get the answers you're looking for before committing to anything. For example: Where do you start? What is a custom home anyway? How long does it REALLY take? How do you determine a budget? Can I really have what I've always wanted? Start here. Read the book. Then you will have the confidence to decide what you want to do. I'm always willing to answer your questions! Leave them in the comments. - Sheri Scott Architecture Owner Sheri Scott, R.A., NCARB, is a residential architect with 20 years experience.
