Here are some answers to questions you might be receiving regarding some upcoming changes Sonos is making to their API. Our engineers have been speaking with the Head of the Partner Program at Sonos to discuss the upcoming changes to help determine how this update will effect our current available driver. What they learned is that they are removing a portion of their API that holds client account information which is used for browsing music services for security purposes. Since our driver does not use any of this information we have concluded that we will not be impacted by this update.
As of 1/19/2018 our engineering team has tested and verified the new software build from Sonos doesn't cause any issues. Therefore, at this time it does not appear that anything will change for end users using our driver.
We had posted some information for dealers regarding Sonos on our Forum also.
FAQS
Are we using the 'certified' API in our driver?
Our current driver does NOT use the new Sonos API. It is using UPnP calls available through UPnP/DLNA media renderer and content provider device profiles. It does not use any of the undocumented calls that the dealer email specifically mentions for browsing of music services.
Are we recognized and certified partners of Sonos?
We have been having regular discussions with Sonos since they first announced the creation of an API and have access to the new API. Being a certified partner with Sonos requires having a driver that passes their certification tests.
Will there be a new driver?
Yes, we are working on a new driver using the new API. It will be tested and certified by Sonos. Even though our current driver should continue to work.
