If you could go back in time, what would you tell your adolescent self? Now take a look in the mirror and think about that question in terms of your complexion. Are years of skin sins staring back at you? Hindsight is 20-20, and while we can't go back and get a do-over, we can certainly make the effort to stop what we are doing in our present lives to mitigate the damage that we have wrought over time and prevent suffering further ill-effects of bad habits. The following are 5 of the top culprits; if you see them taking a toll on you, consider how you might kick the habit. Sun Exposure While our bodies need sunlight for Vitamin D and healthy bones, even a few minutes exposed to the dangerous UV rays can lead a breakdown of collagen, which in turn leads to fine lines and wrinkles. We can't avoid the sun altogether, but prolonged exposure can result in dry skin, freckles and liver spots, blemishes, sunburn, broken capillaries and, worst of all, cancer. Always apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or above before going outdoors. Choose cosmetics that contain sunscreen, wear sunglasses to protect the delicate eye area, and be aware of any medications that may intensify the risk of UV damage.
