Public Relations: PR Guild and PRCA team up to encourage social enterprise

The PR Guild and the PRCA have established a task force to create and support social enterprise opportunities in the PR industry.Following the Buy Social Forum last month, a joint operation was tasked with unlocking the potential for social enterprises to become effective suppliers of the PR industry. The forum identified that there was a lack of understanding and even apathy towards social enterprises that function like normal businesses with one difference - excess profit is reinvested in social and environmental causes.PR agencies Waggener Edstrom and Salt PR, alongside the in-house team at Lloyds Banking Group, are already on board for the initiative.Jon Chandler, master of the PR Guild, said: "The PR sector has a unique opportunity to make a positive social impact through intelligent buying. We need agencies and in-house teams with a passion for change to help us kick start a campaign to buy social."Francis Ingham, director general of the PRCA, said: "Establishing a thriving supply base of social enterprises generates a new pool of talent. It can also help agencies and in-house teams deliver on their social impact goals."If you believe you can make a difference, then get in touch - we need your ideas."The PRCA, founded in 1969, is the largest PR association in Europe and represents over 12,000 people.
