I recently read The Lifechanging Magic of Tidying Up which has as a core tenant that before organizing or storing can occur, first we must discard everything that doesn't spark joy in us. Inspired by this short book, I made a pile on the floor of every item of clothing that I own and then held each one, asking myself whether it sparks joy in me.
