Transforming Need Into An OpportunityThe present generation and perhaps many more to come will live on the foundation called "Economy". The word is quite simple but has got different shades depending upon the reader to interpret it. For many ,it is the chain through which their lives are tied. While for others it is the ultimate opportunity to realize their dreams. In this chaos, what has slowly gained a lot of prominence is English Language. Till our independence we were little skeptical to become like Britishers, but our post independence choices clearly shows that we have imbibed a lot more from what we thought from our British legacy. One of the biggest things that we have acquired from them is the English Language. For many, English is also a language which unites people in India because of the diversity while for some it divides them on the name of class. I personally believe that it is better to use this language to gain some productive outputs rather than theorizing and playing around the bush. Like it or not, English is not only a language used by the elites now, but a catalyst called economy is making sure that the use and acceptance of this language increases across sections. It would be difficult for most of the people to learn English who have learned or studied all their life in their vernacular language but that doesn't serve as an excuse against the crude economy.The importance of the English language grew much more post the much awaited 1991 reforms. Considering this need to learn English should be seen more as an opportunity to progress than to crib and continuously struggle against it. It's not about being submissive but its about being realistic and futuristic. Come what may, we have to accept the fact that English is a global language and we Indians not only have to use it but excel in it. Talking about the recent past, we never have been alien to the use of English, but the need of the hour compels the citizens to actively indulge in use of the English language which is again only a part of their business.When we talk about the English language, there are a lot of aspects that we can cover from elite symbolism to cultural hegemony, but the whole effort over here is to keep it simple and just put forward an argument that it has just become part of business. Well, many may put forward an argument that what is the need to learn English when a huge chunk of its citizens are employed in unorganized sector ? We need to understand that while they are working in the informal economy, their vulnerabilities are also high. These are the people who are entrepreneurial and do not necessarily need to use English. But all these entrepreneurs have ambitions and want to grow big. At some point or other, if not for them but for their employees, the use of English certainly becomes mandatory. What I am trying to emphasis on is that I do understand the fact that skills and abilities are more important than language but in the present time, the language itself has become a skill. Whether it is in the field of research or in operations, the language that we use, the way in which we communicate triggers our success or failure.It has been observed that government has already shown its obsession in providing skills to the youth. In fact, these skills are merely a way through which new laborers are being manufactured with a new competence. I believe that learning English and then using it is a better skill in the present time working in the monotonous manufacturing industries which rarely has anything new to offer other than new machines.In a time of cut throat competition, learning and using English in an efficient way can be a very important asset for any individual. Unemployed people and specifically the young ones should serious give a thought to this aspect and should try to act as per the need. Surely this will help them to transform their need into an opportunity. From here on, they might jut start playing with the ultimate structure which we all are a part of rather than continuously struggle with it.
