SOLiD: New O-RU Alliance to Enhance Multi-Vendor 5G Network Deployments

Kyocera, in collaboration with six telecommunications companies: Alpha Networks (Taiwan), HFR (Korea), Microelectronics Technology Inc. (Taiwan), SOLiD Inc. (Korea), VVDN Technologies (India), and WNC (Taiwan), announced the formation of its O-RU Alliance. The alliance aims to advance the adoption of Open RAN by providing interoperable and flexible radio network solutions. The O-RU Alliance aims to address the limitations of current 5G wireless networks, which rely on proprietary interfaces restricting interconnection between Central Units (CUs), Distributed Units (DUs), and Radio Units (RUs). By promoting O-RAN-compliant solutions, the alliance will create an open ecosystem enabling multi-vendor collaboration, increased competition, and expanded market opportunities for telecom suppliers.Kyocera and its alliance partners will focus on three key initiatives: interoperability testing (IOT) of O-RAN-compliant CUs and DUs, providing a reference design for O-RU interface processing units to improve interconnectivity, and publicly introducing member suppliers to telecom operators to enhance global business opportunities and system configuration flexibility.Kyocera will launch the O-RU Alliance on March 3, 2025, with six telecom partners. The initiative promotes Open RAN adoption and multi-vendor interoperability.Current 5G networks rely on proprietary interfaces limiting flexibility. The alliance will focus on interoperability testing, baseband component sharing, and supplier introductions.Members will gain increased access to global telecom markets through Kyocera's network."The O-RU Alliance will drive innovation by fostering collaboration between global telecom suppliers, enabling more flexible and cost-effective 5G networks," said Hideo Tanimoto, President of Kyocera.New O-RU Alliance to Enhance Multi-Vendor 5G Network Deployments
