Lawson State Community College: Birmingham City Schools announces early college partnership with Lawson State Community College

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) - In an effort to expand their early college initiative, Birmingham City Schools has announced their partnership with Wenonah High School and Lawson State Community College. GBHS offering $10,000 reward for arrest of abuser after puppy dumped matted, muzzled and emaciated Birmingham City School's Superintendent Dr. Mark Sullivan said the program, called BCS Early College Wenonah, will give students the opportunity to earn an associate's degree and certifications while completing their high school curriculum at Wenonah High School. It's an effort to prepare students for college and their careers. "Part of one of those five pillars in our strategic plan is academic success, and I think that this ties into the work that we're doing with our students," said Dr. Sullivan. "We knew that we wanted to make sure that all of our students had equitable access to early college programming, so coming here at Lawson State right across the street from Wenonah High School is a natural merging." Leaders at Lawson State Community College and Wenonah High School said they welcome the new initiative. Wenonah High School Principal Dr. Willie Goldsmith is encouraging parents to sign their children up for the program. Applications for the program are now open. The program will begin the 2025-2026 school year. Birmingham City Schools has an early college program at Woodlawn High School. Copyright 2024 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
