Valentine's Day is a great excuse to spend some quality time with the one you love and what can be better than to treat your partner to a splendid meal that not only tingles their palate but also gets them in the mood for love. They say you are what you eat, and many things we consume have a direct impact on our hormones, brain chemistry, energy, and stress levels, but some may serve a much sexier purpose: Aphrodisiacs. There are many foods that are believed to boost your sex life and though they are not magic potions that will make your sex better, they can raise body temperature, provide instant energy, help produce sex hormones, reduce stress, or fire neurotransmitters that trigger feelings of love or arousal. For our Valentines Weekend, we prepared special menus that will help you enjoy this special night with your significant other, and if you are interested in why these foods are considered romantic, please read the following. Chocolate We start with the best-known aphrodisiac - Dark Chocolate. Chocolate contains phenylethylamine (PEA), which stimulates the same hormone your body releases during sex. It also sparks dopamine production in the brain. Salmon Salmon, as you may already know, is a source of Omega-3 fatty acids that help you maintain your heart healthy, but it is also an aphrodisiac. Those fatty acids also help you maintain hormone function and raise dopamine levels which induces feelings of pleasure. Vanilla Taste and smell are important components when it comes to love and romance. Through history, many connected the sweet, alluring aroma of Vanilla and sexual arousal. Heliotropin in Vanilla is responsible for Vanilla's ability to soothe emotional tension and reduce anxiety and stress. Asparagus When you take a look at the shape of asparagus, it does have suggestive form, but that is not the sole reason why this vegetable is considered as an aphrodisiac. This vegetable contains vitamin E which helps with the production of sex hormones. It is also rich in folate (which helps with erectile dysfunction), so French bridegrooms often ate it prior to their honeymoon to increase sexual desire. Coffee There are many proven benefits of coffee. This is the world's most socially acceptable stimulant and is well known for its stamina-enhancing ability. The caffeine increases heart rate and gets your blood flowing. It also elevates levels of dopamine. Champagne Champagne is viewed as luxury drink and a symbol of celebration, so what is a better way to finish a romantic evening than to pop up a bottle of this aphrodisiac of luxury. The carbonation in champagne will help you highlight your senses as some research suggest that they elevate mood but also help brain function.
