A quick glance at the state of the smartphone user in 2016 reveals some pretty telling behavior. I'm talking literal glances - go ahead: take a look at the nearest person using a smartphone, right now. Chances are this person is stealing "hidden minutes", a 30-second to 3-minute window that they didn't even know they'd have, in which they glance down at their smartphone and randomly or deliberately pick an app to open. This is instantly recognizable behavior on public transport, in elevators, in lines or when waiting for a meeting - often known as "time killers" and sometimes less charitably as "social avoidance behavior".
