Nena & Co. bags come from a lot of effort and inspiration. The panels we create and use for our Sustainable Collection take a lot of intense labor as some of our close friends discovered in a weaving class we hosted in Guatemala! We want you to know who is making your Nena product cause they are the reason we exist and until you see how our products are created, its hard to fully appreciate every detail. When you scroll through the photos you'll notice there are no big machines to do any of the work for them. These are truly handmade! Something you should know is that weaving is a tradition Maya women and men have kept for many generation is truly a labor of love for them. They take pride in their creations and so do we. A single panel on the Leather Day Bag ll takes a full week to make! Our goal as a company is not to exploit scenes of these people breaking their backs to in an exotic setting to tug on your heart string as many small companies do (i hate to say that but its true). Rather, we want YOU to know that we work hard to design products that continually give work/income to those who want it. And since we love what we do so much and our weavers love what they do so much, we want to show you how its done through the photos below!!When we were organizing the class below we let our weavers know that we wanted to show our friends one of the simplest techniques for the lack of time. I think we were in the class for about three hours and most of our guests weren't able to get past a couple rows of weaving! Our head weaver thought this was hysterical since this was a simple technique that most of their teenage daughters did after school that they typically used for scarves:) We love our friends for trying!-xxNena Our little Zoe Lazerson (@Zoelaz) being taught the order of looping. So many beautiful colors to pick from!Babe Tessa Barton (@Tezzamb) deciding which colors she wants. Our fave Jessica Hetherington (@jessicarosehetherington) looping her threads.Weaving away!
