Mr. Paul Dean, Vice President of Engineering, Maintenance and Technology Centers for The Dow Chemical Company, has been welcomed as a new member of the MTEC SmartZone Board of Directors. Dean's connection with the Houghton-Hancock community began more than 35 years ago when he attended Michigan Tech. "This area is a favorite yearly retreat, not only to visit family, but to relish all the extraordinary qualities of the region," observed Dean. "The community and its ethics provided a strong foundation during my formative college years that has stayed with, and served me well, throughout my career." Dean graduated from Michigan Technological University in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and was immediately hired at Dow. Over the years, he has held positions of increasing responsibility. In his current role at Dow, Dean leads one of the world's largest engineering and construction organizations and is accountable for Dow's global maintenance and turnaround performance as well as the functional excellence of Dow's business Technology Centers. "It is my desire to use my industrial and global experience to give back to the community that gave me so much," said Dean. "I envision SmartZone as a sustainable pillar of vibrancy and resilience for the community's financial structure. A self-sustaining institution leading the way for a virtuous cycle of innovation and entrepreneurship." Dean is a long term board member for the Michigan Technological University School of Engineering. He has served in local government and has represented Dow as a board member for the Wildlife Habitat Council and Ducks Unlimited national committee. In addition, Dean has served as a member of the Cisco Global Manufacturing Advisory Board. He has been recognized by the Manufacturing Leadership Council winning the Operational Excellence Leadership Award (2014) and the Visionary Leadership Award (2017).Client News?:
