Movements Blog Hussain Jawad Wikipedia Page Created To Help Raise International Awareness

The wife of jailed Bahraini human rights activist ‎Hussain Jawad posted request for help in promoting international media awareness about his case. Like many of his fellow activists, he was detained as a result of his work as a human rights defender and for having freely expressed his opinion. "My name is Asma. I am 24 years old & a mother of a 2 year old baby boy. My husband Hussain Jawad was arrested, tortured & jailed two months ago. My Husband has been working on many cases related to prisoners in Saudi Arabia like Raif Badawi, Waleed Abu Al Khayer and the 4 princesses. He is still imprisoned. He is a prominent human rights defender in the Gulf region & he is Chairman of European-Bahraini Organisation for Human Rights. Hussain was forced to sign false confessions under torture. I need help to create media pressure to release him." A writer with expertise in Wikipedia articles responded and created an entry on Hussain Jawad reporting on his arrest and the ongoing trial, the international reaction, and his case for asylum in the UK. Recent events in the Bahraini uprising of 2011 are also noted. While there is much more work to be done on this and too many other human rights abuses around the world, this Wikipedia article is a successful step in improving the visibility of Hussain Jawadi's case.
