Mike Program Blog MIKE Program Receives Support from WorkSystems

MIKE Program is thrilled to be selected in WorkSystems’ second round of recipients for COVID-19 emergency funding. The funding helps avert staff layoffs due to the economic downturn. “Right now our focus is maintaining connection with and through the school partners with the vulnerable youth and their mentors we serve,” says MIKE Founder and Executive Director Cheryl Neal, MD. “The funding helps us weather COVID-19 with an intact team.” WorkSystems provided 24 nonprofit organizations with the emergency funding in the latest round, after funding 19 nonprofit organizations in the first round earlier this month. MIKE’s partnership with WorkSystems began in 2013, as a participating job site for a paid work experience opportunity with the SummerWorks project. The project provides teens who are economically disadvantaged and in communities of color with a paid summer job. SummerWorks is instrumental in helping teens connect to the job market that would otherwise be difficult to access.
