Mclaren Calabasas Blog F1 Driver Input Makes Up McLaren 12C DNA

The practice of using Formula One drivers to develop road cars is time-honored among many of the world's car makers. Acura's (or Honda's if you're reading this from overseas) NSX was famously refined with input from Ayrton Senna and Infiniti has promoted Sebastian Vettel to help develop its cars. McLaren, as one of the most successful teams in F1 history, is no exception. Lewis Hamilton joined the fraternity of McLaren Formula One World Champions in 2008 when he took the championship in the last corner of the last lap of the last race that season. As the team's most recent champion, he was a natural fit for providing feedback to the engineering team. While testing an early version of the McLaren MP4-12C Coupe, Lewis opined that the steering wheel didn't feel much like a Formula One car's. Taking Hamilton's input into consideration, the engineers changed the thickness of the wheel to that of Lewis' F1 car, but with a minor change. Since the 12C is a road car, its drivers would be unlikely to wear gloves while at the wheel. As such, the thickness of a racing glove was added to the girth of the wheel to produce the same diameter of grip as the F1 car. Such is the precision of the McLaren engineering team. Today we offer one of the last remaining new 2013 McLaren 12C Coupes in our inventory. Finished in Titanium Silver paint, this car's stunning creases and flowing lines catch the eye. Extensive carbon fiber in the turning vanes, engine covers, and sill panels, perfectly compliment its brilliant color. The McLaren's two-tone Stone Grey and Carbon Black interior is made using semi-aniline leather which preserves leather's natural look and grain. The effect of old-world craftsmanship in the leather and advanced technology in the exposed carbon fiber makes for a blend that is unmistakably McLaren. As a new car, this 12C has been programmed with the upgraded IRIS system. A lifter kit, the stealth package, the Meridian sound system and more make up the rest of the build. You can find the rest of the car's photos and more information on its listing page, or learn more about the model on the 12C page.
