Mercedes LagunasMercedes Lagunas is a self-taught artist who discovered her love of art while studying Art History at University. Mercedes then embarked on a career as an airline stewardess for 10 years, which enabled her to see the world. Inspired by her travels, she was able to make the transition to her true passion: painting. Mercedes enjoys painting flowers and portraits most of all, and her vibrant images are filled with energy and joy. Besides painting, Mercedes has done illustration work for magazines, including The New Yorker. Her paintings are included in collections all over the world. She currently lives in Madrid, Spain, with her husband and son. What medium do you work with?ML: Acrylic on canvas and cardboard. Also Collage. What inspires you? What artists inspire you?ML: Life, love, family, music, and dreams. Goya, Picasso, German expressionist art, Frida Kahlo, David Hockney, Olaf Hajek and many more. What are your hobbies (besides art)?ML: Going to the beach and to the mountains with my family, reading, eating, movies and series. Describe your workspace:ML: My workspace is at home, it depends, every day in a different room. How many years have you been an artist?ML: All my life! Many of my childhood memories are painting. Do you work in silence or with music? If music, what do you listen to?ML: Both. I like many styles: from classical, bossa nova, jazz, rock, flamenco, cuban... If you were not an artist what would you do?ML: I can´t think of anything else...maybe a dancer! What jobs have you done besides being an artist?ML: Flying attendant, aerobics teacher, advertising model, and working in an office. What is your dream project?ML: To live by the sea with my family and paint.
