McDonald's: At a Glance: April 29

INFLUENZA UPDATE: Influenza is no longer considered prevalent in New York State, Health Commissioner James McDonald announced on Monday. The declaration, which covers the 2024-2025 flu season, follows declining flu rates accompanying warmer temperatures. The new designation means health care workers who are not vaccinated will not be required to wear a mask when patients or nursing home residents are likely to be present. The requirement has been in place since Dec. 18. McDonald continued to recommend people take precautions like washing their hands and avoiding others if they are sick.SUPPORTIVE HOUSING: The city will invest another $46 million into congregate supportive housing with a goal of making 5,850 more units available. The additional housing, which often comes with on-site social, medical and mental health services intended to help break cycles of chronic homelessness, mark a shift toward more congregate units, where apartments are grouped in the same building, as opposed to scatter-site housing, where one-off units are located in private buildings with non-supportive housing. The city has struggled to meet targets for opening scatter-site housing under the 15/15 initiative, aimed at adding 15,000 supportive units to the city's housing stock over 15 years, while surpassing congregate goals, according to the Mayor's Office.
