A new survey has shown that out of the top one million sites ranked by Alexa, Magento is the most popular e-commerce platform used by online businesses. We are always talking about how great we think Magento is, but this just proves that other people do too! Magento and its partners are clearly playing an important role in providing online merchants with the best e-commerce platform on the market.The report which came from the February 2013 edition of Tom Robertshaw's quarterly e-commerce survey shows that Magento is the leading e-commerce platform amongst the top one million websites (ranked by Alexa) for the third year in a row. It highlighted that 26% of the top websites were using Magento, which gives the company a 30% increase in market share since last year's report was published. Magento has a clear lead over the companies in second and third place with almost triple the number of users.Magento clearly succeeds in areas that other e-commerce platforms fall short on. We believe that one of its main benefits is the fact the company uses an open source approach. This has allowed for a community of Magento developers and users to get together to share their knowledge with each other and work together to develop the platform and its functionalities. There are currently over six thousand four hundred modules developed by Magento and its partners. This number will continue to rise as more and more modules are created in order to meet the needs of businesses and their customers.The e-commerce platform is also extremely flexible and is suitable for businesses of all sizes and all kinds to use.
