A child's first flight can be scary so spend some time preparing them for the trip.First you want to talk to them about flying. Tell them what you will have to do at the security checkpoint. Then walk them through getting on the plane and buckling up like they are in a car taking a ride.Tell them the kinds of noises they will here and describe what turbulence feels like. Tell them it feels like a roller coaster or the scrambler how it goes up and down and sometimes bounces around.Explain that due to the change in altitude their ears will fill up with air and they will feel some pressure but that this will go away after take-off and landing. Children and adults both find relief from sucking on candy or juicy chewing gum, the act of chewing and swallowing relieves the pressure on the ears at take-off and landing. Be careful when choosing the juicy treat for small children to avoid the possibility of choking during turbulence. Yawning is also a good way to relieve the pressure on your ears.Read them books on flying and traveling so it will peak their interest and let them be at ease. If you fear flying then try not to pass that fear on to your kids because it may stay with them as they grow up.Make their experience fun. Play fun games that involve all the things they may be scared of on a plane. Reassure them that they are safer in the plane than driving in a vehicle.
