I have drooled over dainty doily bowls for soooo long now and finally plucked up the courage to give it a go. So glad I did because it was MUCH easier than I imagined... although I did have a major fail which I'll tell you about at the end!What You'll NeedDoilies. I used our large 20cm round doilies, available HERE for $2.50 eaach.A largish mixing bowlGlad wrap (cling film)A small bowl. (ie drape your bowl over the base to see if it is the right size for your doily)Fabric stiffener (bought from craft stores like Spotlight)Step 1Turn your small bowls upside down and cover with Glad Wrap. The wrap stops the doily from getting stuck to your bowl.Step 2Follow the fabric stiffener instructions and make up the starch solution in your mixing bowl. You only need to make a enough solution to soak into your doily (ie don't use the whole bottle!).Step 3Thoroughly soak your doily in the solution.Squeeze out the excess liquid in order to reduce the drying time.Lay the wet doily over the bottom of the bowl and place in a sunny place to dry.And project complete!!! So sweet as a jewellery bowl, or somewhere to contain all those pretty hair clips you have already made!I nearly forgot to mention the 'fail'. At the same time as making this bowl I tried to use left over pieces of fabric lace to make another bowl. Same process as above except that there were numerous pieces of lace stuck together. Well the end result was a flop as the laces peeled away from each other and wasn't a nice smooth bowl like I'd hoped.You win some, you lose some!
