Lisa Molina Blog It really WAS a great idea ... at the time!

Barnes & Noble has been a great source of inspiration for me, when it comes to song titles and ideas. In October 2010, during a lunch break from work, I was walking around the store and one book caught my eye. It was called, "It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time: My Adventures in Life and Food", by Moira Hodgson. Complete with recipes, the book is a memoir of meals from around the world. I didn't care what the book was about, but I knew right away that it was a great song title. A few days, to a week later, while at home, I picked up my guitar and started playing the handful of chords I knew. At some point, I kept on playing the same three chords because they sounded good together. I didn't have words yet, so I started singing the ba-da-da's that you now hear throughout the song, to help hold the melody that was starting to form. My fiancé was in the room and told me to record what I was doing. He even suggested that the ba-da-da's I was using as filler, for lyrics I didn't have yet, should be kept in the song. At first, I thought it was a crazy idea.. Another day or two passed before I tried to write lyrics. I always knew this would be a list song and the ease of how the list of examples came to me confirmed that. The first verse came so quickly, it felt like the song was going to write itself. I don't get that lucky with lyrics but this song was ready to be written. The other verses came very quickly too but I got stuck on the b part of the song. By the way ... the first verse was the only part that never changed when it came to the rewrites. I played it for my musical partner-in-crime and cowriter of the song, Jeanne DiBenedetto. She loved it, so we decided to finish it together. We sat down and went through each line of each verse. A good amount of the lyrics that you hear in the finished product, remained intact, but we rearranged the order of the lines. Once we were happy with the verses, we tossed around ideas for the b part. I think we got together, once, maybe twice for a few hours and the song was done. That's not the norm for me but this song was waiting for us and I'm super proud of the end result.
