MakerBot, a subsidiary of Stratasys Corp., has bought software developer Layer by Layer The California company, which makes user interfaces and platforms to help guide users through 3-D printing tasks, has shut down and moved to MakerBot's Brooklyn, N.Y., headquarters and will focus on developing software for the MakerBot system, according to a letter on its website.
