What's the Difference Between the 2021 Subaru Outback and Ascent?
Under the hood, the new Subaru Outback comes with a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine that produces 182-horsepower while the Ascent comes with a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that achieves 260-horsepower and 277-pounds-feet of torque. However, when you choose one of the Outback XT variants, you'll get to enjoy that same 2.4-liter turbocharged Boxer engine in the Outback. When properly equipped, the Outback can tow up to 3,700 pounds while the Ascent can tow up to 5,000 pounds.
Both the Outback and the Ascent come equipped with a Starlink multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The Outback offers larger touchscreen display options, providing you with a standard 7-inch or available 11.6-inch touchscreen display while the Ascent offers a standard 6.5-inch or available 8-inch touchscreen.
The new Ascent is a three-row SUV with seating for up to eight passengers, or seven passengers if you choose second-row captain's chairs. The Outback is a two-row crossover SUV with ample cargo space for all your storage needs.
