Would you love to make documentary work? As the print world is increasingly challenged by online, and the traditions of journalism are retired, how are you supposed to plan for such a career and earn a living? We are offering a tailored learning experience to suit you and your environment.Tutor, Abby Verbosky will reference recent developments and trends she is seeing in and around New York & USA.This course is an attempt to discover why some images are remembered while most are not. This will be an introduction to visual communication through still photography and the processes required to deliver publishable material for journalism and documentary.Student work is reviewed and critiqued for composition, content, technical excellence, and the ability to communicate the information of the original subject to the viewer. There will also be time devoted to sharing each other's work, which will help to build visual language, creativity, observational and critical thinking skills. Legalities, ethics, and professional practice will also be covered briefly.This programme is open to people of all ages & experience. Learning outcomes will be tailored to each individual depending on their knowledge and areas of interest. Suitable for people 18+, including tertiary students, enthusiasts, and anyone wanting to enjoy a fun and intense week absorbed in photography.NOTES1. If you don't have your own camera or lens, rental equipment and consumables will be available from our office.2. Lunch is not provided. Students are welcome to bring a packed lunch, or buy lunch from nearby cafes.3. Places are strictly limited.About the Tutor:Abby Verbosky's roots are in social documentary and street photography/videography. She specializes in media education while maintaining a professional practice. Based in Brooklyn, New York, Verbosky is fully immersed in the local photographic community. She recently / currently teaches as an adjunct at the Fashion Institute of Technology, a Manhattan college in NYC, and oversees all programing at Reel Works as their Program Director. Reel Works mentors, inspires and empowers underserved NYC youth to share their stories through filmmaking, creating a springboard to successful careers in media and beyond. Verbosky graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Photojournalism and Anthropology from Ohio University and is passionate about visual storytelling.Cast: Kingsize Studios
