J And K Stuff Blog July was a busy month for J and K Stuff!!! Part II

So, we came back from our first vacation and spent nine days back in the real world. Only to spend those nine days gearing up for a fun filled tripped to San Diego and Funko Fundays!Unfortunately, we have never been lucky enough to obtain tickets to SDCC but we will always make the six hour trek to San Diego to attend Fundays which is an amazing event in and of itself. If you've never attended you really should take the time to check it out.Fundays is an annual event put on by Funko for its Funatics and retailers and is usually held on the Friday night during San Diego Comicon. The event consists of a buffet dinner, drinks, a Box of Fun and prizes, prizes and more PRIZES! With over 700 attendees this year's Fundays was the largest in Funko's history! We left sunny Phoenix that Friday morning and drove to Chula Vista where we set up camp at KOA. We've never been to a KOA before and were pleasantly surprised by all the non-rugged amenities offered while still maintaining the fun of camping. They had restrooms, showers, playgrounds, bouncing pillows, game room, swimming pool, convenience store and more! We even had our own little campground visitor! (Yep, that's a skunk!) Once the campsite was setup it was time to head over to Fundays! This is what a room full of Funatics looks like!Needless to say, the line to get in was long, the lines for dinner and drinks were endless and the enthusiasm was immeasurable! We sat with a great group of people from California and a few from Australia. There were tables and tables full of prizes and prototypes as far as the eye could see. Everyone had his or her eye on one piece or another. Myself? I had my eyes on a 36" Freddy Funko with a Boo Berry T-shirt. (Can you blame me?)I wasn't lucky enough to win the Boo Berry Freddy but we still had a great time with some amazing people! We can't wait until next year's event. It just keeps getting better and better!Next up was a rainy day full of estate sales that began with a wake up call of hundreds of birds yelling at 5:30 am. It sounded like something straight out of Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. We drove around San Diego and mapped out a few estate sales. One was that of an avid traveler who had boxes and boxes full of vintage maps from around the world and stacks of vintage magazines. If you've ever checked out our Ebay sales then you know how I love vintage magazines. Of course, I grabbed a few or 50. :-)We then spent the next two days snorkeling. Our first day was spent at Mission Point Beach. Luckily the day started off rainy so the beaches and, more importantly, the parking lots were fairly empty. After quite a bit of investigating and an intimidating climb down some slippery rocks we found a really secluded place where the water was clear and the fish were plentiful. The next day we ventured over to La Jolla Cove which is always amazing due to the fact that it is a protected area. One downfall of the cove is that there is quite a bit of seaweed to wade through and sometimes it is so thick that there isn't much to see. However, what made up for this is finding out that the seals who like to sun themselves on the nearby rocks also like to jump in and swim under the seaweed and around snorkelers. I found this out first hand when some seaweed beneath me moved with a wave and suddenly, one foot below me, a large gray body was revealed. Having heard previous reports of shark sightings in the area I panicked only to discover it was a playful seal. They were amazing to watch and we spent hours swimming along side the seals and large schools of fish.Later, we came to shore to eat and pack up our things. However, the seals weren't done with us yet and much to the dismay of the beachgoers the seals decided to sun themselves on the shore. They were nice enough to let me take a picture with them. :-)After many sunburnt hours we were on our way back to KOA for one last night of campfires and tent life and then it was back to reality.Anyway, that was our summer vacation. Please share some of your summer fun with us on our Facebook page and one lucky person just may win some fun stuff to help cope with the reality of being back in the daily grind. #SummerFun2014Just a couple of last minute shoutouts...If you are ever in the North Park area of San Diego then be sure to stop by La Creperie, they are FANTASTIC! Also, a big thank you to Kearny Pearson Ford for fixing the electrical problem on our Flex and saving us from having a miserable return trip!
