Washington, D.C. - April, 2019 - Software developer ComputerWorks congratulates Deric Alkurabi, Director of Congressional Operations, on completing a Master of Science degree in Cyber Security Policy and Management from University of Maryland University College, making him their first resident cybersecurity expert."Security is such a huge issue in the industry today," said Mr. Alkurabi. "When we were working on completing our security assessment against the NIST framework, I was really intrigued. I think this field is just going to continue to grow. The UMUC program helped me acquire the knowledge and skills to evaluate and protect our own critical infrastructure and assets, as well as those of our customers."The National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security has designated UMUC as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance and Cyber Defense Education, and the Defense Cyber Crime Center Academic Cyber Curriculum Alliance has named it a National Center of Digital Forensics Academic Excellence. UMUC's graduate program in cybersecurity management and policy is designed to help students gain the tools they need establish, implement, and oversee an organization's cybersecurity structure.Mr. Alkurabi has been employed by ComputerWorks since 2008, beginning with an entry level help desk position. Today, he primarily coordinates customer support services and spearheads new product development initiatives for the House Offices. He also oversees new office implementations, both in DC and the state offices."We're enormously proud of Deric and his ambition," said Greg Rosano, CEO and founder of ComputerWorks.
