Position at Impedans: Software Engineer
Bio: Peter graduated from the Institute of Technology, Carlow in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computer Games Development.
Working at Impedans?
Impedans is an exciting company full of hard-working and kind-hearted people. I’ve had nothing but good experiences working here for the last nine months. While working from home for the last few months has brought its own unique challenges, I’m lucky to be working for such an understanding and patient company.
What drew you to this career?
I originally wanted to be a games developer but after working as an intern in IRP, a software company in Amsterdam, I decided that I’d prefer to move into software engineering. I’ve always enjoyed puzzles and solving problems which led me to develop strong debugging skills.
What's the biggest challenge you faced when taking on this new role?
Working with legacy code is never easy, especially when it is from multiple engineers across multiple years. Whenever I would start to work on a new pre-existing codebase, I would have to spend some time going through it, getting a good idea of how it worked.
What excites you about working for Impedans?
I’m a strong believer in surrounding myself with people smarter than me in order to improve. Everyday I interact with anyone in the company, I learn something. Since starting with Impedans, I’ve become a better software engineer, started to learn how to program firmware and even developed a novice understanding of plasma physics.
How would you describe your role in one word?
Educational. As I said, I’ve learned so much from working in Impedans and I’ve barely scratched the surface.
How would you describe your experience so far at Impedans?
Fantastic, I think it’s very rare to find somewhere to work where you like what you do everyday and who you do it with.
