HVN: Tweed-New Haven Airport unveils renderings of new East Terminal

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) - Tweed New Haven Airport has unveiled new digital renderings of its new East Terminal. The design for the new 84,000 square-foot terminal is 60% complete, which is a significant milestone for major infrastructure projects, according to an announcement by airport officials on Thursday. "This milestone is a testament to years of planning, collaboration, and innovation," Michael Jones, CEO of the company that manages the airport, said. "Through these renderings, our community can see the vision of a modernized Tweed that combines enhanced air travel, economic growth, and environmental responsibility. We are excited to share this progress and continue refining the design with input from our stakeholders." "With every step forward, Tweed proves it is more than an airport, it's a powerful engine of economic growth for our region," Robert Reed, Chairman of the Tweed-New Haven Airport Authority, said. "This expansion brings opportunities for businesses, good jobs for residents, and momentum for Southern Connecticut's economy." In addition to the expected economic benefits, the expansion will support sustainability efforts in the region by "restoring over 32 acres of tidal wetlands, preserving 25 acres of grassland bird habitat, and enhancing flood resilience by elevating the terminal above the 100-year floodplain," according to airport officials.
