HumanGeo Blog Scaling GitLab CI

HumanGeo has grown with GitLab over the years. We started off with a meager instance built from source years ago, and finally upgraded to the Omnibus installation last year. Fast-forward to today, GitLab CI has started to knock Jenkins off the throne as continuous integration tool of choice for some of our teams.As part of our growth and expansion (from around 20 employees then to more than 140 today), along with the emergence of amazing tools like Spark and Docker, the volume and intensity of builds started to outgrow the all-in-one box that we had GitLab & GitLab CI running on. This blog post outlines how we were able to utilize the Docker Machine features of gitlab-runner in conjunction with AWS to create a scalable solution that's cost-effective and most importantly, actually works.
