HSM Blog A Closer Look at MEDITECH Data Extraction and CPOE Usage Reports

Computerized Physician Order Entry or "CPOE" is a growing trend in today's health care environment. According to CMS.gov, for organizations to attest for Meaningful Use Stage 1, "More than 30 percent of all unique patients with at least one medication in their medication list seen by the Eligible Provider have at least one medication order entered using CPOE." More recently, for organizations to attest for Meaningful Use Stage 2, "More than 60 percent of medication, 30 percent of laboratory and 30 percent of radiology orders created by the Eligible Provider during the Electronic Health Record reporting period are recorded using CPOE." With the growing requirement for providers placing a percentage of their medication, laboratory and radiology orders online and with many organization's options for CPOE full adoption implementations has come the need for accurate CPOE Usage Reports. CPOE data can easily be extracted within MEDITECH to ensure usage statistics are accurate and attestation is successful. The following information is integral when building a CPOE Usage Report and is required for accurate data. Both of the following elements can be extracted in the MEDITECH system and contribute to both the numerator and denominators that fulfill the Meaningful Use measures:
