If you're a member of our Discord server, you've probably noticed Dexter sitting in the user list. You may have even interacted with it in the form of registering your own Dexter if you've bought one recently. For those that haven't, we've recently created a Discord bot for our server which has just reached version 0.3! It currently has the functionality for registering products to gain the Dexter Owner role which gives access to the customer hangout channel. In v0.3, new functionality has been added for a basic profile system which helps us keep track of customer support history. The bot has also recently been moved to a dedicated machine for running the program. The customer registration system was our original intent for creating the bot. Once the Discord server was set up and the Dexter community was welcomed to join, we started using the server as one of our customer service portals. One of our problems, however, was identifying who had currently owned a Dexter or if they were just in the server to check it out and look around. Our initial solution was to just manually add the roles as customers joined the server, but as the server grows, this has the potential of becoming more than we can deal with. So, we applied a solution we're pretty big on here at Haddington: automation.Right before we ship out a purchase, we generate a verification code for use with the Discord bot to verify your robot. Once you get your confirmation email that your Dexter has shipped, you can take the code from that email and use it with the Dexter Discord bot to get your Dexter Owner role on the server. Just go to the bot-commands channel and send "dexter.verify" and send the code in response to Dexter's prompt afterwards. After that, you're done! One feature we're rolling out in beta in v0.3 is our new profile system. We're still working on smoothing out the system, but it can be used right now. We're considering having profiles be autogenerated upon joining, but at the moment they need to be manually created with "dexter.newProfile" in either bot-commands or in a DM to Dexter. Right now, the profiles store information on name, organization, email address, registered robots, and a comments section. The first three fields need to be edited manually, however, and you can choose to not fill them out if you wish. Robots will go into the registered robots field automatically upon successfully using dexter.verify and comments can be added by either yourself or an HD employee. The profile system still needs a good amount of work before it's completely operational. Robots that have been verified in the past have not yet been added to the profiles. We're looking at ways around this right now, but it will most likely either be new verification codes distributed for this purpose or they will be updated manually.Minor changes include setting Dexter's status on Discord to a message indicating the help command and the addition of a new backend permission system for HD employees to use certain commands.
