It's 2020, and being able to bring your dog to work with you is no longer a rarity in the corporate world. Those of us who are lucky enough to have a workplace that allows dogs, view it as a perk to the job. But what if it wasn't just a perk? What if having dogs in the workplace contributed to healthy daily movement, a productive headspace, stress-relief, and community bonding? Health studies discussing the benefits of owning a dog, talk about the positive benefits of increased exercise. When you're sitting at a desk all day, having a dog in the office is a great way to work light movement into the day! Your dog will inevitably need to take an outdoor potty break which forces you to step outside, feel the sunshine, move your legs, and breathe fresh air. Breaking up sedentary work routines with outdoor movement is a healthy addition to your workday! Not to mention, your work can improve from it as well! For many people, taking a break from a project they are currently working on can help bring new energy, fresh ideas, and a different (sometimes better) approach to the project altogether.Stress can sometimes be an inevitable part of our workday. Another benefit of having a dog in the workplace, is a reduction of stress based on our physiological response to being around dogs. Research shows that just simply being in the same vicinity as a dog can lower ones blood pressure. What better compliment for the daily stresses of work than something that lowers your blood pressure and is furry and adorable? Dogs also cultivate community in the workplace, which is an incredibly important component when it comes to working for a great company. They can be a great starting point of conversation, which hopefully evolves into a daily friendly exchange between coworkers. Sometimes, something as simple as allowing dogs in the workplace can lead to a type of friendly company culture that blossoms organically. And the workplace environment can be made much more fun with furry friends running around, wagging their tails, and giving you a break from the daily stress that work can bring.Green Spaces encourages a dog-friendly culture both in our Denver, and Winter Park locations.
