GPUTC Blog Solving problems at the Greater Peterborough UTC

The essence of the work we will focus on at GPUTC is solving problems. Unlike Mark Watney, our students will not be marooned on an inhospitable planet, but they will be preparing for work and study in situations where there are limited resources and they have a problem to solve. I urge all our potential students to watch this film because it is all about overcoming obstacles ... and doing it in style!The development of practical skills - so they can design and then manufacture/build their designs - will be at the centre of the UTC experience. Many of the students who have applied for places are very enthusiastic about this element of their future courses. That's not surprising when you stand in our fully-equipped workshop, view the £200,000 worth of equipment and remember there will be three more when we open in September 2016.UTCs are different because they enable young people to study those technical courses hand-in-hand with academic qualifications such as GCSEs and A-levels... and then they 'fuse' the practical and academic via employer challenges where all their learning comes together.It's no wonder that our employer sponsors are already guaranteeing job interviews for our first graduates in 2018 because Greater Peterborough UTC students will have the best possible preparation for employment. If University is your aim then the collaborative learning, module-style of working again serves as a superb foundation for a degree course.
