We believe that the effort of design is essential to creating unique and responsive solutions. It is the right of the client and the responsibility of the architect to explore solutions for the best "answer" to the projects parameters. Without this effort, the costs to create a space that does not accurately address the owner's needs ultimately costs more in terms of function and aesthetic. In an exercise to test this idea, we designed 2 exterior solutions for the same floorplan and had cost estimates for each to compare.Design Option 1 - Typical Exterior Solution Design Option 2 - Unique Exterior SolutionThe construction cost estimates were within .05% of each other, but Design Solution 2 provided the client with a unique and identifiable project that better represented their philosophy and function. It is critical to not dismiss or short-cut the design process, or it might cost you.
