Fortress Youth Development Center Blog Utilizing Community Resources

Parents who decided not to come to the parenting event on Thursday, April 28th missed out! After helping themselves to dinner at the taco bar, our very own Ethan handed out copies of the resource binder he complied (assembled by volunteers from the Junior League of Fort Worth) and then walked parents through each section. This wonderful tool is chock full of helpful information and the handy 3-ring binder format makes it easy to add and update content over time. There are sections for emergency and urgent contacts, like poison control, places providing food and clothing assistance, including places specifically focusing on school uniforms, where to go for substance abuse, counseling or support services, adult education, financial and legal assistance and so much more! Ethan talked about each of the resources and pointed out helpful tips for using them, such as the fact that some organizations require a letter of recommendation and Fortress can provide that letter. And did you know that Fortress has a computer lab that parents can use to do online research from 10am to 2pm Monday through Thursday? No appointment needed! Ethan made sure to point out that this is a living document that he would love to add more information to, and some of our dedicated parents stayed after the presentation to give him suggestions right away on resources they were aware of that could be included. If you missed out on getting a copy last week or at the parenting support group on Monday, please be sure to ask for one when you pick your kids up next and don't forget to tell Ethan THANK YOU for putting all of this information together in one place!
