FMI: Spirit AeroSystems acquires materials firm

US-based Spirit AeroSystems has acquired Fiber Materials Inc (FMI), an American firm that makes heat-resistant materials for missiles. Spirit, which builds the fuselage for the Boeing 737 MAX and been hurt by the airliner's production suspension, said on 28 February that the FMI purchase will diversify its customer base and expand its defence business.
