Elephant's Trunk Blog Creating a Peaceful Room

A common topic is a desire to have one's home, or even just a room in their home, give off more of a calming vibe. Wouldn't you want to come home at the end of a hectic day and be able to truly relax in the comfort of your own home? So here are a few tips and tricks to creating that Zen in your home.Atmosphere is everything! This is an important rule of thumb. Studies have shown that soft and warm colors help create a calm and cozy area. For those who prefer a more open space: greens, pastels and off-whites will be in your favor since they have a more open feel to them. As for those who prefer a cozy area, you will want to use the light browns and softer yellows and oranges; these are the warmer and more comforting colors. Any color that is loud will create more of a commotion than something subtle; think of it as your mind running a mile versus doing yoga. The next step is to have furniture to match. You will want something that is inviting. If you are more of an open person, you will want a small amount of furnishings. Keep it simple and use darker woods to help create depth in your room by accenting the pieces carefully chosen to make your room perfect. As for the cozy crowd, you would more than likely take joy in larger furnishings so you feel more enclosed, almost like a cuddle from your room. I would stick with the lighter woods and patterns so it has an airy feel in the room. If you have too much and you're more open, or have too little and you're more confined, you won't feel at ease and it will be difficult to create your ideal comfort level. It is all your own, and your preferences are what matter when it comes to your masterpiece, otherwise known as your home. With these tips, you should be well on your way to creating a truly peaceful atmosphere you can enjoy, and that others can adore.
