DustPhotonics: DustPhotonics Launches its 1.6 Tbps Silicon Photonics Engine

DustPhotonics has announced the launch of the first merchant silicon photonics engine designed for 1.6 Tbps DR8 applications, catering to AI and hyperscale data centers. The engine features eight independent channels, each capable of 224G per channel, with an additional variant supporting four channels for 800Gb/s DR4 applications. Both versions integrate on-board lasers with DustPhotonics' proprietary L3C technology, aimed at reducing optical loss and simplifying transceiver designs. The new engines will address a variety of data center needs, including short-reach and longer-reach applications of up to 2 km. A more affordable version will be available for shorter reach scenarios, up to 100 meters, by utilizing a single laser. These products are suited for LRO (Linear Receive Optics) and LPO (Linear Pluggable Optics) transceiver applications, as well as environments that use immersion cooling.Currently available for sampling, the engines are expected to enter production by the end of the year. DustPhotonics plans to showcase the new technology at the ECOC trade show in Frankfurt this month, where CEO Ronnen Lovinger will also present on silicon photonics in immersion cooling environments.• Engine Specs: 8 channels operating at 224G each, 1.6Tb/s total• Variants: 4-channel version supporting 800Gb/s DR4• Technologies: L3C Low-Loss Laser Coupling, immersion cooling support• Reaches: Standard up to 2km; low-cost version for up to 100m• Applications: AI, hyperscale data centers, LRO, LPO transceivers"We are extremely satisfied with the performance of our 224G/channel devices, where we have successfully demonstrated error-free links," said Yoel Chetrit, CFO at DustPhotonics.DustPhotonics Launches its 1.6 Tbps Silicon Photonics Engine
